I’ve just read two articles that have stirred up some of my own insecurities about education.
Article One: The Shadow Scholar
Article Two: Too Asian?
(Both articles appeared on the fantastic http://givemesomethingtoread.com/)
The conclusion I’ve drawn is that just going to college is not nearly enough preparation for anything. Part of that is because any experience is what you make of it, but another is surely the deficiencies inherent in the very structure of higher learning, a glorification of process to the detriment of teaching and creation. But what can anyone do? I feel as if college “education” is mostly just another trial, before the real learning and real doing can take place! Am I delusional? Is this what we want?
